We spend a lot of time meeting with candidates and clients from both agencies and corporate communications teams in-house. They tend to fall into one of the following categories: long-term agency people, those who have always worked in-house, those who have tried both sides of the fence to see where the grass is greener, and those who are happy to chop and change.

We have seen countless candidates find their dream job in-house after years working in agencies, only to find out later that they miss the agency life. Then there are others who will remain in-house throughout their career once they grow accustomed to the corporate world.

Whichever camp they belong to, the question on the minds of many of these professionals is: Who pays more in the PR and communications industry – agency or in-house? Our recent Annual Salary Guide revealed some interesting findings on the subject.

This means you may need to ‘try on’ a few roles before you find ‘a great fit’, but exactly how long does this take?

I have been part of a mastermind and training group for years. We meet up twice a year for a three-day ‘retreat’. In the past, we have basked in the Tenerife sun, walked across hot coals in leafy Kent, sung karaoke and hired out a casino for the night in the beautiful Scottish countryside. It’s always incredibly energising and we come away with fresh ideas and knowledge, ready to take on the world again!
